Creating a New Category & Subcategory
You can manually create new categories and subcategories for your products. You can also do a Category import to automatically list the product categories in Unbxd PIM.

With a category or subcategory, you can:
- Associate properties to a category
- Associate properties to a subcategory
- Set default value for a property
To create a new category and subcategory:
- On the MANAGE tab, click Categories.
- Click Add Category.
- Enter a name for the category, for example, Men.
- Click Add Category.
The category appears.
- To add more categories, repeat steps 2 through 4. For example, along with Men, let’s add Women.
- To add a subcategory for a category, do the following:
- Hover on the category for which you want to add child, and then click Add Child.
- Enter a name for the subcategory or the child category.
- Click Add Child.
- Hover on the category for which you want to add child, and then click Add Child.
You can use a combination of Add Category and Add Child buttons to get the required level of hierarchy for your product categories and subcategories.
Associating Properties to a category or subcategory
Once you create a category or subcategory, you can associate product properties with the category or subcategory. If you associate certain properties for a category, its subcategories or child categories will automatically inherit association with those properties.
If you select a category while adding or editing a product, the associated properties are automatically listed for the product.
- Click the category or subcategory you want to associate properties.
- In the Associate Properties list, click Add for the properties you want to associate with the category or subcategory.
The added properties display property name, property data type, option to set the default value, and option to remove the property from the category or subcategory association. - Click Update.
Setting the Default Value for a Property
You can set default values for the associated properties of a category or a subcategory. You can view the default property values when you are assigning categories while adding or editing a product.
To set default values:
- In the Default Value column, click Set Default Value for the property you want to set the default value.
- Enter the default value for the property.
- Click Set as Default.
